With more than 20 Democrats running for office in nine federal, state and local seats, the Clayton Township Democrats announced they have endorsed at least five candidates.
About 30 candidates for U.S. Senate, U.S. House, Missouri Senate, Missouri House, St. Louis County, Executive, St. Louis County Prosecutor and St. Louis County Council races were in attendance at the University Public Library seeking endorsements from local voters last week and those voting results were released Monday night.
Among those endorsed by the township was current U.S. Senator Claire McCaskill. McCaskill, who was first elected to that seat in 2006 won re-election against Republican Todd Akin in 2012 and will likely square off with Republican candidate Josh Hawley in November.
U.S. Congressman Lacy Clay picked up an endorsement from Clayton voters as he looks to secure his ninth re-election to the U.S. House.
Meanwhile, in the Missouri Senate, Jake Hummel will try to keep his seat in District 4 after picking up the endorsement while Brian Williams received an endorsement for District 14.

Ian Mackey, a candidate for Missouri House District 87, was the only other candidate to receive an endorsement.
According to the group’s Facebook page, the Clayton Township Democrats were unable to endorse in the races for U.S. Congress (MO-02), St. Louis County Executive, St. Louis County Prosecutor and St. Louis County Council (District 5) due to voting irregularities.
Eight more candidates who are running unopposed were automatically endorsed by the Clayton Township Democrats. The list includes:
Nicole Galloway, State Auditor
Jake Zimmerman, St. Louis County Assessor
Jill Schupp, Missouri Senate District 24
Gina Mitten, Missouri House District 83
Tracy McCreery, Missouri House District 88
Kevin FitzGerald, Missouri House District 89

In order to vote for endorsement, voters had be registered to vote in the Clayton Township, and have paid their annual $25 dues.
