Five people walking across Hanley Road were struck by a driver Sunday afternoon, police said.
At approximately 2:48 PM, St. Louis County Police officers from the Central County Precinct responded to the intersection of North Hanley Road and Nola Avenue for a report of persons struck by a vehicle.
Upon arrival, officers located five juveniles who were struck by a vehicle. They were immediately sent to a local hospital.
Thus far, the investigation has revealed that the striking vehicle, a Kia sedan, was traveling southbound in the 2400 block of North Hanley Road. The vehicle left the roadway and struck five boys ranging from nine to 13 years of age, as they were walking along a grassy berm alongside the roadway.
The driver of the striking vehicle, a 57-year-old female, remained on scene and is cooperating with the investigation. Police believe she suffered a medical event while driving. She was treated at the scene by EMS.
Four of the juveniles suffered minor injuries and are in stable condition.
One juvenile suffered from a serious injury and is currently in critical/unstable condition.
The investigation remains very active at this time.
