Homicide in North County, charges issued

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – St. Louis County Police officers from the North County Precinct responded to The Estates of Spanish Lake Nursing and Rehabilitation Facility, located at 610 Prigge Road in St. Louis, Mo. 63138, on Wednesday at approximately 7:09 am.

The officers responded to a call for service regarding a sick case. According to the officers, upon their arrival, an adult male victim, in his late 60s, was located inside his room suffering from physical injuries. The victim was pronounced deceased on the scene. He has positively been identified as Larry Harris, 69 years of age.

A suspect, a male in his early 70s, was placed in custody for his suspected involvement in the incident.

Both the suspect and the victim involved resided at the facility.

The St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office issued charges on the suspect, Willie Clemons, 73 years of age, for one count of Murder in the Second Degree. He is being held on a $250,000 cash only bond.

The probable cause statement reads: Victim and the defendant were roommates at the nursing home and rehabilitation facility at 610 Prigge. A nurse arrived at the room where the victim and defendant lived in and found the victim lying in his bed and not breathing. The defendant admitted to the nursing staff that he punched the victim multiple times. The victim had visible injuries to his head consistent with being struck multiple times. The defendant had apparent blood on his hands when he was arrested. The defendant was interviewed by police and he admitted to punching the victim multiple times while he was on top of him on a bed.

Detectives from the St. Louis County Police Department Bureau of Crimes Against Persons are conducting the investigation.
