KSHE 95 receives 2232 donations for 2018 winter blood drive

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – KSHE 95 volunteer blood donors provided a total of 2232 donations at the annual KSHE Winter Blood Drive December 14th and 15th.

The blood drive was held at nine different locations across the St. Louis region, featuring live broadcasts by the KSHE Morning Rock Show, Favazz, Nick Bacott and John Mintert. All presenting donors received a KSHE Blood Drive T-shirt, which has become a collector’s item in the blood drive’s 35-year history, and they were entered in a drawing for tickets to see El Monstero, which is scheduled to play a series of six sold-out concerts at The Pageant.

The KSHE Blood Drive was first held in 1989 in order to support the blood supply during “this critical time of year.” Since the first blood drive, KSHE’s listening audience has become a reliable base of support for the blood supply during the summer and holiday season.

“It always warms my heart seeing the dedication our KSHE listeners have, taking a moment out of the busy holiday season to come save a life with the blood they are donating,” Lern, KSHE 95 morning radio host said. “The 2018 Winter Blood Drive was no different…just pure goodness from the people of St. Louis.”

According to a news release, nearly 4,000 listeners participate in the July and December blood drives each year. In total, KSHE listeners have donated enough blood to possibly benefit up to 441,000 people in need.

KSHE shared that blood components are in constant use year-round, but the rate of blood donation decreases during the months of November and December. During the holidays, the blood center loses more than 1,000 donations and because the holidays occur back-to-back in November and December, it can be difficult for centers to replenish supplies. KSHE also shared that the weather can be a factor during this time of year as well with the potential for snow and ice to cancel the blood drives or decrease donor turnout.

This year’s blood drive provided a “much-needed boost” to the region’s blood supply in the days leading up to the Christmas and New Year’s holidays.
