Lathrop Gage congratulates Schmitt being appointed Attorney General

CLAYTON, Mo. – Governor Mike Parson appointed Eric Schmitt as the next Missouri Attorney General on Tuesday.

Scott Malin, Deputy Managing Partner for Lathrop Gage in the St. Louis office, said that Lathrop Gage is thrilled for Schmitt and his family for the next chapter of his career.

Schmitt was a partner at the firm Lathrop & Gage, LLP, in Clayton, MO, where he focused on land use, real estate, business disputes, and administrative appeals.

“All of us at Lathrop Gage are delighted for Eric Schmitt, and extend a heartfelt congratulations to our friend and former partner on being named the next Attorney General for Missouri,” Malin said. “Eric was with Lathrop Gage for 10 years, and during that time he demonstrated exceptional leadership skills, an aptitude of the law and the integrity that makes him an optimal choice for the state’s chief legal officer.”

Schmitt attended DeSmet Jesuit High School and continued his education to graduate cum laude from Truman State University, where he founded a Habitat for Humanity chapter. He then attended law school at Saint Louis University where he received his J.D. in 2000 and served as an editor of the Law Review.

“Eric is a proud Missourian, and his dedication to law and justice will allow him to serve the people of Missouri with distinction in his role as Attorney General,” Malin said. “He is a towering figure, and his heart and compassion for others is just as large. We know the people of Missouri will be well-served.”

Schmitt will be filling in the position which is soon to be vacated by Missouri’s U.S. Senator-elect, Josh Hawley. Hawley will resign from the Office of Attorney General on January 3, 2019.

Now that Schmitt will be taking over as Attorney General for Missouri, it will be up to Parson to appoint a replacement for State Treasurer.
