LaunchCode offers free coding course to veterans, active military members and military families

ST. LOUIS – National workforce development nonprofit, LaunchCode, is recruiting veterans, active military members and their families for a cohort LC101, their flagship computer programming course.

This is a 20-week part-time course that is being offered to students at no charge to them. The course is funded by a generous $130,200 grant from the Berges Family Foundation.

“Veterans and active service members make up a large, untapped pool of talent. Many have pre-existing skills and life experience that is valuable to the evolving tech industry,” said Jeff Mazur, LaunchCode Executive Director. “Learning to code means unlocking unlimited opportunities to those with the drive to succeed. LaunchCode is excited to provide valuable, 21st-century tech skills to retired and active military members and their families in St. Louis.”

LaunchCode recently received over 1,500 applications for about 440 available seats for Summer cohorts of their free courses. They are still accepting applications until Oct. 22.

This special cohort of LC101 is a chance to extend a high-demand opportunity to a segment of the population that could greatly benefit from it.

Classes will be held Monday and Thursday evenings from 5:30 pm to 8:30 pm from Nov. 2018 to Mar. 21, 2019 at the American Legion Post 137 in O’Fallon, Illinois (close proximity to Scott Air Force Base).
