Missouri Senator Jamilah Nasheed writes letter to Sen. Durbin regarding racist radio station in Southern Illinois

Democrat Missouri state Senator Jamilah Nasheed wrote U.S. Senator Dick Durbin of Illinois a letter regarding a radio station in Southern Illinois that routinely uses racist and misogynistic slurs on air.

Nasheed stated that radio personality Bob Romanik, who hosts the ‘Kool Killer Kountry’ (KKK) radio station on 1190 AM, regularly uses language calling African American’s racist nicknames, and regularly attacks people of different sexual orientation along with calling women “bitches” and “whores”.

The Missouri senator’s letter requests that Durbin, also a Democrat, come together with Nasheed and demand that the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) removes the station from the air.

“Because this station is licensed to a city in your state, I am respectfully requesting that you join me in demanding that the Federal Communications Commission revoke the license of this station and issue fines accordingly,” Nasheed said in the letter. “I know that you share my commitment to calling out hate wherever we see it and whenever we hear it. Clearly, this is a matter that must be addressed immediately for the people of Illinois and Missouri.”

According to Fox 2 (KTVI), the controversial radio host has defended his language by saying its his First Amendment right to say what he wants and claims that half his audience is African-American.

“I promise you when the rap artists quit using the n-word and as soon as Chris Rock quits using the n-word, I’ll quit using n-word,” he said.

The radio show’s website describes Romanik’s show On the Dark Side “is the most controversial show on radio today. The Grim Reaper of Radio is not politically correct or politically incorrect, he’s politically insane!”
