MoDOT offers Joachim Creek Bridge in Jefferson County for reuse

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Missouri Department of Transporation (MoDOT) announced on Wednesday that they are now accepting proposals for the reuse of the bridge that crosses over Joachim Creek.

The current bridge, originally built by M.E. Gilloiz in 1934, is located on Route 61/67 in Jefferson County. It is a six-panel Pratt through truss bridge with four steel stringer approach spans and is 120 feet long and 42 feet wide. The bridge is said to be replaced in 2020.

Joachim Creek Bridge is eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places due to its local significance in transportation and engineering. When taking that eligibility into consideration, federal law requires that any state proposing demolition of a historic bridge to first make it available for donation to a state, locality, or responsible private entity.

According to MoDOT’s release, the bridge can be obtained by government entities, historical or civic groups or private citizens free of charge. The cost to remove the bridge or any of its parts will be the responsibility of the party obtaining the bridge.

Those who are interested in taking all of part of the bridge are invited to submit a proposal for reuse. Proposals will be due by June 30, 2019.

Additional details about the bridge, its reuse or the reuse proposal can be found on MoDOT’s Free Bridges website.
