OFS raises $109,000 at handbags to end hunger event

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Operation Food Search (OFS), a nonprofit hunger relief organization, raised $109,000 at its recent Handbags to End Hunger, formerly known as Purses for Pantries, event on Oct. 20th.

Proceeds from the event will be used to benefit the agency’s program and services.

The fundraiser had both a silent and live auction, featuring a variety of design and designer-inspired handbags, evening clutches, vintage pocketbooks, totes, carryalls and more. Restaurant and spa gift certificates and jewelry were also included as auction items.

Sue McCarthy, author and owner of The Vault Luxury Resale and founder of the multimillion-dollar resale boutique based in St. Louis was also featured as a guest speaker for the event.

“This year’s popular fundraiser was an even bigger hit because we opened up online bidding for the first time,” Sunny Schaefer, Executive Director of Operation Food Search said. “Those who couldn’t attend the event were still able to make purchases and show their support for our organization, and we are truly grateful for their help in putting an end to the area’s hunger.”

OFS was founded in 1981 and is a hunger relief organization that provides food and nutrition education. The organization has a strategic focus aimed at ending childhood hunger and empowers families with a range of programs and services proven to reduce food insecurity and increase access to healthy and affordable food.

OFS helps feed more than 200,000 individuals on a monthly basis through a network of 330 community partners in 31 Missouri and Illinois counties.
