Reed calls upon Director of Human Services to reevaluate winter outreach policies

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Board of Aldermen President Lewis Reed sent a letter to Irene Agustin, Director of Human Services, urging her to reevaluate the winter outreach policies on Thursday.

Per the City’s website, winter outreach and shelter operations are only implemented for the City when nightly temperatures are forecasted to fall below 20 degrees or 25 degrees with precipitation.

“This is a serious matter that needs to be addressed. Other cities have winter outreach policies with much higher temperature standards. It’s time to reevaluate our old policies and implement best practices,” said Reed.

Reed also asked Agustin to share her plans for the unhoused and homeless populations for the upcoming winter storm and for the rest of the winter months.
