Armstrong Teasdale, a law firm with offices across the United States, proudly announces that its trial lawyers have secured yet another top Missouri defense verdict for 2017. Litigation partners Timothy J. Gearin and David G. Ott, along with associate Nicolas P. Cejas, earned the number three spot on the list of top verdicts, as ranked by Missouri Lawyers Weekly.
The winning verdict for client SSM Health Care was issued in March 2017, for a contentious wrongful death lawsuit valued at $7.2 million. This year marks the sixth time Gearin and Ott have graced the top of the chart since 2003. Their winning verdicts have encompassed all aspects of bet-the-company litigation.
“We are proud to have extremely strong trial lawyers,” said John Beulick, managing partner at Armstrong Teasdale. “Tim and Dave consistently handle high-dollar, high-stakes litigation matters for our clients with unparalleled skill and client service.”
In 2010, the plaintiffs in the case sued SSM following the death of a 78-year-old man who fell while walking into an SSM procedure facility the year prior. He struck his head in the fall and later died of his injuries. The plaintiffs alleged that one of the concrete slabs in the walkway leading to the entrance was uneven and caused him to fall. Following a six-day trial in St. Louis County Circuit Court, the jury found in favor of SSM.
Co-leader of the firm’s Health Care and Life Sciences industry team, Gearin is one of the most sought-after trial lawyers in the Midwest with broad experience in business litigation, catastrophic and personal injury, medical malpractice, products liability, complex litigation involving antitrust, and qui tam cases. Gearin, a member of the American College of Trial Lawyers, primarily represents clients in the health care, agribusiness and manufacturing industries.
Ott has extensive experience in a wide range of litigation areas including medical and professional malpractice, personal injury, products liability, and business and commercial matters. He has tried over 100 cases in courts across the nation, and his successful verdicts have ranked among Missouri’s highest for at least a dozen years. Ott also leads the firm’s representation of clients in the area of toxic torts.
Cejas’ main focus is representing major hospital systems, doctors, nurses and other professionals facing catastrophic injury and other medical malpractice claims. He also defends clients in premises liability, product liability, insurance and commercial actions.
