ST. LOUIS — Parents as Teachers National Center (PATNC) has announced a gift of $50,000 from Joseph and Carolyn Losos to support the Carolyn Losos Prize for Excellence and Innovation Fund.
The Losos Prizes for Excellence and Innovation publicly recognize outstanding Parents as Teachers affiliates who lead their peers and demonstrate how Parents as Teachers positively impacts children and families. The prizes are presented annually at the Parents as Teachers International Conference.
The awards highlight the advantages of achieving blue-ribbon status, the highest quality endorsement, to our affiliate programs, and illustrate the positive affect Parents as Teachers has on families when program fidelity is high.
As a longtime advocate of organizations that promote youth and civic enrichment, Carolyn Losos was the first chairperson of the Commissioner of Education’s Statewide Advisory Committee on Parents as Teachers, and has been a Parents as Teachers National Center board director since it was established 34 years ago, serving as Board Chair 2000-2004.
Through their lifetime of service to St. Louis, the Losos have demonstrated a deep and abiding commitment to families, with particular attention to the early education of children and their parents’ role as key agents of change for their families. Since 2006, the coveted Losos Prizes (named by the PATNC Board as a tribute to Carolyn) have recognized innovative and effective leadership, and those leaders’ ability to inspire greatness in others.
“We’re honored to receive this generous gift from Carolyn and Joseph Losos. The permanent establishment of the Losos Prize Fund secures the future of an effective motivational program that inspires our network of affiliates to greatness. We deeply appreciate Carolyn’s commitment to Parents as Teachers and to the affiliates that the Losos Prizes recognize,” said Constance Gully, President and CEO of Parents as Teachers.
“I originally gave the money to establish the award because I knew that the success of the program depended on the commitment, excellence, vision and caring of the people and organizations in the field,” said Carolyn, “and I still believe they too should be recognized and thanked.”
About the Losos Prizes
Losos Prize for Excellence winners are Parents as Teachers Blue Ribbon affiliates that are significantly impacting the lives of families through their services. This impact is demonstrated through both qualitative and quantitative data.
Losos Prize for Innovation winners are Parents as Teachers model affiliates (who demonstrate fidelity to the PAT model and are pursing Blue Ribbon status) that have developed new solutions to address specific needs in their communities or have enhanced existing programmatic service delivery in a new or innovative way. Innovation can include more effective processes, services or technology that meet the unique needs of children and families.
