RELEASE: St. Louis, Kansas City attorneys selected for leadership council on legal diversity roles

Armstrong Teasdale, a law firm with offices across the United States, proudly announces that two attorneys at the firm have been selected to participate in Leadership Council on Legal Diversity (LCLD) programs in 2018.

St. Louis Financial and Real Estate Services partner Hillary Bean has been selected as a Fellow, and Kansas City Financial and Real Estate Services associate Rachel A. Orr has been selected for the Pathfinder Program. Both programs provide tools, training and collaborative opportunities to help build relationships and further develop leadership skills.

“We are very pleased to have these two women attorneys representing Armstrong Teasdale on a national level with LCLD,” said Jovita Foster, partner and chair of the Inclusion Committee at Armstrong Teasdale. “As a 2017 Fellow myself, I know how important it is to exchange ideas and learn within a group of diverse legal professionals. I’m excited for Hillary and Rachel to have this great opportunity.”

Bean is the director of the Women’s Inclusion Network at Armstrong Teasdale and in her legal practice she handles leasing, financing, sales and other transactions. She has experience in transactions involving environmental risk and has negotiated and drafted contracts, escrows and related insurance documents. Bean is currently handling leasing and construction financing for a new $700 million development, the largest in St. Louis, for a Fortune 100 multinational corporation. Bean  coordinates leasing objectives with overall design and development for the building or project. This includes the negotiation of work letters, management agreements, development agreements and loan documentation. She is skilled in all areas of land use, development, construction, finance and leasing issues relating to build-to-suit and design-build projects and counsels developers and owners in the acquisition and disposition of commercial properties.

During her Fellow year, Bean will embark on a learning program that includes in-person conferences, training in the fine points of legal practice, peer-group projects to foster collaboration and build relationships, and extensive contact with LCLD’s top leadership, including the managing partners and general counsel who host the Fellows for Learning Experiences and Leadership Lunches.

Orr’s practice primarily focuses on the federal tax aspects of municipal finance transactions, including tax-exempt bond issuances. She counsels municipalities and other organizations throughout the financing process and handles due diligence matters and IRS filings. Orr also has experience with transactions involving development and financing incentives, redevelopment, tax credits, tax increment financing and special purpose districts. She also has extensive experience with municipal debt transactions, including both single- and multi-family housing bonds, qualified tax credit bonds, qualified 501(c)(3) bonds, variable rate health care revenue bonds, leasing and direct lending transactions, and small-issue manufacturing bonds. In addition, Orr regularly represents clients before the IRS in audit examinations of tax-advantaged bond issues.

The Pathfinder Program, designed for early career diverse attorneys, will provide Orr with online experiential learning and peer networking opportunities. In addition, she will attend in-person meetings and have the opportunity to connect with LCLD Fellows in law firms and in-house counsel positions across the country.
