RELEASE: The Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis Kicks Off 2018 Hon. Richard B. Teitelman Memorial St. Louis Pro Bono Challenge

St. Louis, MO – The Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis (BAMSL) kicked off its 2018 Hon. Richard B. Teitelman Memorial St. Louis Pro Bono Challenge at an awards banquet on Jan. 25 at the St. Louis Club in Clayton.

In 2017, BAMSL partnered with Legal Services of Eastern Missouri to implement this exciting program to encourage and support pro bono legal services, and to publicly recognize those lawyers and law firms who step up to the Challenge.

Thanks to the efforts of the 19 firms participating in the 2017 Challenge, 32,054 hours of pro bono legal work was provided to the St. Louis community in 2017. Each participating firm exceeded the goal of providing 10 hours per attorney of pro bono legal services.

“At a billable rate of $200 an hour, that translates to more than $6.4 million worth of donated attorney time,” BAMSL President Ed Dowd said. “Thank you for such an amazing contribution to our community. Thank you also to Legal Services of Eastern Missouri for its partnership in this great program.”

Participating firms pledge to actively encourage pro bono and strive to perform a total of 10 hours of pro bono on average per year per attorney located in St. Louis. For example, a firm of 50 local attorneys would commit to an annual total of 500 hours.

Dentons US LLP and Husch Blackwell LLP exceeded the American Bar Association’s model rule recommendation of 50 pro bono hours per attorney. Dentons was declared the “winner” of the 2017 Challenge with the highest average hours per attorney: 55.2 hours of pro bono service per attorney.

The Challenge was renewed for 2018, and formally launched at the Jan. 25 event, during which participating firms signed a ceremonial pledge that is on display at the BAMSL Bar Center.

As a result of scouting throughout the the net and coming across ideas which are not pleasant, I was thinking my life was well over. Living devoid of the answers to the difficulties you’ve resolved through your entire guideline is a crucial case, as well as those which could have adversely affected my entire career if I hadn’t come across your site. Your talents and kindness in playing with all the details was useful. I’m not sure what I would have done if I had not come upon such a step like this.
