Resident conductor Gemma New to lead SLSO in third family concert of the season

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The St. Louis Symphony Orchestra (SLSO) will be taking families on a trip to the Zoo, without leaving Powell Hall, at the Family Concert: Carnival of the Animals.

The Family Concert series was created by SLSO to engage and capture the imaginations of younger listeners while making orchestral concerts more accessible to parents with young children.

This 45-minute concert will be held on Sunday, March 24th and will be presented without intermission.

SLSO resident conductor Gemma New will lead SLSO in the family-oriented concert that will feature Saint-Saëns’ “beloved” musical suite of 14 movements depicting various animals such as lions, elephants, donkeys, kangaroos and swans. Emily Bowling, conservation education liaison from the Saint Louis Zoo, will be present to narrate the concert.

Powell Hall invites families to SLSO’s Instrument Playground before the concert. Beginning at 2:00 pm, before each Family Concert, guests will have the opportunity to explore, touch and play real instruments of the orchestra. The hands-on experience for all ages will be located in Powell Hall’s Wightman Grand Foyer.

Before the show begins, representatives from the Saint Louis Zoo Education Department will be available sharing animal biofacts and activities centered around the animals who will be featured in the 14-suite movement.

Tickets for the Family Concert: Carnival of the Animals are on sale now, beginning at $8 for children. Purchase tickets online or by calling the Box Office (314-534-1700).
