Shooting in North County downgraded to fatal leaving the scene of an accident

After the completion of an autopsy on a man who was shot last week near Spanish Lake, it has been determined the victim died of other physical injury, not by gunshot wounds as initially believed by first responders and medical professionals, St. Louis County Police said Thursday.

The incident is now being investigated as a Fatal Leaving the Scene of an Accident, police said in a written statement.

At around 8 p.m. on Dec. 20, St. Louis County Police officers from the North County Precinct responded to a call for shots fired in the 1100 block of Reale Avenue.

Upon arrival, officers located Aaron Simpson, 25, suffering from gunshot wounds to the upper body lying in the street.

Officers rendered aid to the victim until paramedics arrived to transport him to a local hospital. Hours later, the victim died of his injuries.

Police said Simpson lived in the 800 block of Cordova Street, near where the shooting occurred.

As the investigation has progressed, detectives have identified a suspect vehicle and are seeking the publics’ assistance in locating it as soon as possible.

The suspect vehicle is a 2011 Nissan Altima, white in color with four doors, bearing State of Missouri license plate HH2-Z1T. The vehicle should have front end damage and is missing its front license plate. Please see the two exemplar photos of the vehicle that are attached.

The investigation remains on-going and is under investigation by the St. Louis County Police Department’s Bureau of Crimes Against Persons. Police are asking the public to contact the St. Louis County Police Department at 636-529-8210 or CrimeStoppers at 1-866-371-TIPS(8477) if you have any information regarding the incident.
