SLSO travels to a galaxy far, far away with performance of Star Wars: A New Hope in concert

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The St. Louis Symphony Orchestra performs one of the most recognizable film scores of all time January 24-27, 2019, when Star Wars: A New Hope plays at Powell Hall.

SLSO Resident Conductor Gemma New, who was appointed the principal guest conductor of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra in October and made her New York City Lincoln Center debut in November, leads the SLSO in four performances of John Williams’ iconic score while the original film in the Star Wars saga plays.

In the film, Luke Skywalker begins a journey that will change the galaxy, as he leaves his home planet, battles the evil Empire, and learns the ways of the Force. Williams’ score to Star Wars: A New Hope won the Academy Award and Golden Globe Award for Best Original Score in 1978. The soundtrack was certified Platinum in the United States and was ranked the best American movie score of all time by the American Film Institute.
