St. Louis County to offer reduced adoption fees for pets in October

St. Louis County announced on Monday that the county will offer free and reduced pet adoptions in the month of October.

As recognition of October being Adopt a Shelter Dog Month and National Pitbull Awareness Month, St. Louis County will set the adoption fee for all dogs one year and older at $20 and the fee will be waived entirely for all pit bull and pit bull mix breeds.

According to St. Louis County, typically the fee for adopting a pit bull and pit bull mix breeds are set at $40.

Dr. Beth Vesco-Mock, the director of animal care and control in St. Louis County, said she hopes the new initiative will put these pets into loving homes.

“Our Pet Adoption Center does a fantastic job caring for these animals, and I encourage anyone looking for a new pet to come visit this great facility,” Vesco-Mock said in a written statement. “We would like to see all of these animals in loving homes.”

The St. Louis County Pet Adoption Center located at 10521 Baur Blvd. in Olivette, Mo. will have dogs of various ages, breeds, and colors available for adoption.
