STL County Council may address councilmember’s absences

The St. Louis County Council on Tuesday may hear a resolution that would address one of its member’s prolonged absence.

St. Louis County Councilman Sam Page will introduce a resolution on Tuesday that would reference Section 2.140.4 of the St. Louis County Charter at the Nov. 7 meeting only in the event that Councilman Ernie Trakas is unable to attend the scheduled meeting.

According to Section 2.140.4 if any council member is absent from more than four consecutive regular meetings of the council, and unless the absences are excused by another resolution, the member’s office shall be forfeited.

Trakas has been absent for the last three council meetings.

When asked for comment, Page said it was a routine measurement when a medical illness prevents attendance.

It’s expected that the County Council will vote to excuse the councilman’s absences.

Trakas was not available for comment at press time.

Also expected during Tuesday night’s meeting will be the second hearing on Page’s bill that would appropriate money to fund a police sergeant’s position for the St. Louis Terrorism Early Warning Group and attorney services related to the St. Louis Fusion Center.

The bill would authorize County Executive Steve Stenger to accept a grant of up to $152,000 from East-West Gateway Council of Governments to fund these positions.
