The race for the St. Louis County Executive position is heating up now that a third candidate has announced that he’s running for the position.
Bill Ray, a real estate agent from University City, announced that he’s entering the race as a Democrat.
Ray will face off against fellow Democrats such as the incumbent Steve Stenger and challenger Mark Mantovani.
The Democratic primary for the position will begin on Aug. 7, 2018.
In a press release, Ray stated that his primary focus will be on ethical changes in the government of St. Louis County which would lead to better handling of healthcare, jobs, parks and social justice.
“We are at a point where the broken promises of the current administration are beginning to hurt our region,” Ray said in a written statement. “The current budget is just one example. No matter how you spin it, spending down the county reserves is unsustainable and shows you are not capable of making tough decisions.”
Ray earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Government and Foreign Affairs from the University of Virginia, and has worked for a national non-profit small business organization as their Missouri Outreach Manager. He was also a special assistant to former county executive Charlie Dooley from 2011 to 2015.
Currently, Ray is a realtor with the Tower Real Estate Group.
