Centene Centre undergoing construction in Clayton

CLAYTON – Centene Centre is working to take Clayton to new heights by building a 27-story office building by 2020.

Founded in 1984, Centene Corporation is a multi-national health solutions enterprise. Centene operates across the country and around the world with 46,000 employees. It is one of the largest publicly held companies based in St. Louis.

“As Centene expands worldwide,” said a Centene spokesperson, “We are pleased to be headquartered in the city of Clayton.”

Located in the heart of Clayton, the building will encompass 700,000 square feet which will include retail, the Wellbridge fitness center and two parking garages with 5,800 spaces. It is expected that the first office building will be completed in 2019.

Tenants have already begun moving in, starting with Wellbridge earlier this month.

“Centene is proud to contribute to the development of Clayton and the St. Louis region with the expansion of our global corporate headquarters,” said a Centene spokesperson.

The construction of the building expansion has already generated hundreds of construction jobs according to Centene. When the construction is complete, Centene expects to provide 2,000 jobs to the campus, 1,000 of which will be brand new to the state of Missouri.

“[We are] committed to the St. Louis community and want to be jobs to the area,” said a Centene spokesperson.

The expansion of the building is designed to establish the ideals of “live, work and play”. It is also designed to be energy efficient and create open, public spaces and pedestrian experiences that will encourage a healthy and energized environment.

“Employees and visitors of the campus will benefit from the walkable, vibrant downtown Clayton community,” said Centene. “The new structures, designed by a renowned, award-winning architectural firm, will be harmonious with the existing city.”

Centene is ranked as one of America’s fastest growing companies by Fortune magazine.
