Christmas trees for Governor’s Mansion to arrive Nov. 26th

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – The 2018 Missouri Governor’s Mansion Christmas trees will arrive on Monday, Nov. 26th. The arrival and placement of the tree will take place Monday between 7:00 am and 8:00 am. During that time, a portion of Madison St. will be closed.

A new addition to this year’s festivities is a working wooden train wrapping around the tree and a live nativity scene performed by Concord Baptist Church will be on site as well.

The annual lighting of the tree will be Friday, Nov. 30th at 6:00 pm. Candlelight Tours will immediately follow and doors will be open until 9:00 pm. Candlelight Tours will also take place on Saturday, Dec. 1st, from 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm. On both days, student choirs and bands throughout Missouri will provide music during the tours.

On Nov. 30th, the Sparta High School band will perform outside on the front steps during the lighting ceremony (6:00 pm-6:20 pm). Choirs, performing inside the Mansion include School of the Osage (6:20 pm-6:45 pm); Bolivar High School (6:50 pm-7:15 pm); Rolla High School (7:20 pm-7:50 pm) and Waynesville High School (7:55 pm-8:25 pm).

On Dec. 1st choirs performing inside the Mansion include Boys and Girls Club of Jefferson City (12:00 pm-12:55 pm); Jefferson City High School (12:30 pm-12:55 pm) and Helias Catholic High School (1:00 pm-1:25 pm).

During the tours, visitors will be able to view the festive decorations on the ground floor of the People’s Mansion. Friends of the Governor’s Mansion docents will be available to answer questions about the historic house.

The tree that will be displayed on the Mansion lawn is a 40-foot Norway Spruce that was donated by Mike and Linda Knudson of Lebanon, MO. It was planed 25 years ago to mark the birth of their son. There will also be six trees throughout the inside of the Mansion, coming from Pea Ridge Farm located in Hermann, MO.

The Missouri Governor’s Mansion is located at 100 Madison Street. For the candlelight tours, visitors will enter the Mansion through the Madison Street gate.
