County police department to celebrate national telecommunicators weeks

CLAYTON – The St. Louis County Police Department announced that they will be participating in the annual National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week on Friday.

The national event will be observed around the United States beginning Sunday, April 14, 2019, until Saturday, April 20th. Throughout the week, telecommunications professionals who aid in providing 9-1-1 emergency to citizens all around the nation will be honored.

“Each year, we celebrate National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week to acknowledge the incredible service of those women and men that may otherwise go unnoticed,” Colonel Jon M. Belmar, chief of police for the St. Louis County Police Department, said.

Telecommunications professionals are depended on for their skill, expertise, and commitment of public safety, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. During those times, they keep their poise while under pressure, aid and show compassion in times of distress, and use critical decision-making skills that can make a difference between life and death situations.

“In 2018, the St. Louis County Police Department’s Bureau of Communications handled nearly one million calls for service,” Belmar said. “Their expertise and commitment are evident each and every day to my officers and commanders and I hope that this upcoming week, even more people can appreciate their service.”
