Green endorsed by NARAL Pro-Choice Missouri for St. Louis Board of Aldermen Board President

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Alderwoman Megan Ellyia Green, D-15th Ward, earned the endorsement of Missouri’s leading pro-choice advocacy group for the City of St. Louis Board of Aldermen President.

NARAL Pro-Choice Missouri announced their endorsement of Green on Thursday. Green is running against incumbent Lewis Reed and Missouri State Senator Jamilah Nasheed, D-St. Louis.

“Alder[woman] Green has been a champion for reproductive rights throughout her time as Alderwoman of the 15th ward,” Christine Shore-Fitzgerald, NARAL Pro-Choice Missouri PAC board chair said. “She will be a fierce advocate for protecting bodily autonomy in all forms as President of the Board of Aldermen.”

NARAL Pro-Choice Missouri noted that Green sponsored Board Bill 203, the Reproductive Nondiscrimination Act, in 2017. The act aims to protect city residents from discrimination based on their reproductive decisions including abortion, birth control, IVF, or in pregnancy.

In 2018, Green co-sponsored legislation to establish a safe buffer zone around clinics to protect patients and staff in the driveways. She also worked to ensure that reproductive rights were included in the Democratic party platform over the summer when the rights were “briefly removed.”

“With unprecedented attacks on reproductive health rights, it’s more important than ever before that we have local champions who are unwavering in their support of choice,” Green said. “I’m proud to be unapologetically pro-choice.”

Voting will be held on Tuesday, March 5, 2019. Whichever candidate wins the March primary will be favored for the April election.
