Nations gives statement on funding action taken by St. Louis County Council

ST. LOUIS – Bi-State Development President and Chief Executive Officer John Nations issued a statement Wednesday afternoon regarding the funding action for Metro.

At Tuesday’s St. Louis County Council meeting, Council members voted to pass Bill No. 204 to help with the security issue and establish public safety for residents.

“We are pleased the St. Louis County Council approved the annual transit operations funding allocation on Sept. 25th so Metro Transit can continue to provide service in St. Louis County,” said Nations. “The County Council approved the amount of $154.5 million for fiscal year 2019 which began on July 1st of this year.”

Nations explained that Transit security is funded through Dec. 31st.

“The County Council will, however, dealy MetroLink funding designated for the second half of the fiscal year in the amount of $2.5 million for Metro Transit and $2.5 million for the St. Louis County Police Department while security and policing issues on the MetroLink system are addressed,” said Nations.

Nations said that Metro is welcoming of the support and concern from the County Council. They agree that it is a critical security issue and are prepared to meet with the Council to help resolve the matter.
