Pursuit and arrest of carjacking suspects

ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. – On Wednesday that St. Louis Prosecuting Attorney’s Office issued charges on suspects in Tuesday’s carjacking and pursuit.

At approximately 1:52 pm on Tuesday, St. Louis County Police officers from the North County Precinct responded to the 12400 block of Horizon Village Drive for a call for a robbery.

According to police, during the incident, two suspects displayed a firearm at the victim, an adult male, and discharged a round into the air when threatening him. The suspects took the victim’s vehicle, a silver, Mazda passenger car.

At approximately 3:20 pm, the St. Louis County Police officers assigned to the Special Response Unit observed the vehicle in question in the area of Dunn Road and Lewis & Clark Boulevard.

Police reported that the officers attempted a traffic stop of the vehicle, but it did not stop. The offices initiated a pursuit, which ended in the parking lot of Jamestown Mall, located at 175 Jamestown Mall in Florissant, Mo. 63034.

According to police, the two suspects, both adult males, exited the vehicle in the parking lot and attempted to continue to flee from the officers on foot. They were arrested soon after without further incident and a firearm was recovered.

Police reported that there were no vehicle accidents as a result of the pursuit and there were no injuries to any citizens, officers or the suspects.

The suspects have been identified as Traveon Scott and Allen Johnson.

Scott, 19 years of age, of the 1700 block of Chiquita Terrace in St. Louis, Mo. 63138, was charged with one count of Robbery in the First Degree, one count of Armed Criminal Action and one count of Resisting/Interfering with Arrest for a Felony. He is being held on a $100,000 cash only, no 10% bond.

The probable cause statement reads: Defendant and co-defendant pointed a gun at the victim and demanded the keys to the victim’s vehicle. Defendant fired one round into the air. Victim gave defendant and co-defendant the keys to the vehicle. Victim observed co-defendant driving his vehicle a short time later. Officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop. Co-defendant refused to yield to officer’s emergency vehicle. Co-defendant led officer on a brief high speed chase. Defendant exited the vehicle and led officers on a short foot chase before being apprehended. Search of defendant revealed a 9mm handgun. Defendant matched the description given by the victim.

Johnson, 18 years of age, of the 1600 block of Rosado Drive in St. Louis, Mo. 63138, was charged with one count of Robbery in the First Degree, one count of Armed Criminal Action and one count of Resisting/Interfering with Arrest for a Felony. He is being held on a $75,000 cash only, no 10% bond.

Victim gave the defendant and co-defendant the keys to the vehicle. Victim observed the defendant driving his vehicle a short time later. Officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop. Defendant admitted he and co-defendant pointed a gun at the victim and took his vehicle.

The investigation is being led by the St. Louis County Police Department’s Bureau of Crimes Against Persons.
