RELEASE: Stay Cool this Summer While Saving Energy

St. Louis— With the temperatures expected to climb above 90 degrees for the next few days, many are thinking about how often the air conditioner is running. One way to keep cool, while still saving energy, is to install a smart thermostat.

“Smart thermostats provide two great benefits. First, Ameren Missouri will give residential customers $100 just for installing one. Second, a smart thermostat can help you save energy through the help of advanced controls,” explained Jeff Berg, program supervisor energy efficiency at Ameren Missouri. “Customers with a smart thermostat can save up to 15 percent on cooling costs during the summer.”

Right now, Ameren Missouri residential customers can receive $100 cash back when upgrading to an eligible smart thermostat. In the last week, several more models were added to the rebate eligibility list. There are now more than 20 models that qualify for the $100 rebate. Plus, some manufacturers offer additional discounts – visit our website for information.

All smart thermostats come with easy to follow instructions.

“These smart devices can do so much. Through the advanced controls, they learn your habits and how cool you like to keep your home. They will then use that information to reduce how much your air conditioner runs where possible, saving you energy long-term,” Berg said.

An even quicker project would be to change bulbs to new light-emitting diode (LED) bulbs. Berg says technology has come a long way in just the last few years.

“The newest LEDs include a wide variety of color options, including the warm light that we’re used to in our homes. Plus, each LED bulb only costs about a dollar a year to operate,” Berg said.

In addition to those easy, quick improvements, Ameren Missouri is offering significant rebates on efficient heating and cooling systems, heat pump water heaters, swimming pool pumps, window air conditioners and room air purifiers. More information can be found for all Ameren Missouri rebates at
