SLSO announces soloist change, welcoming Dolora Zajick in her SLSO debut

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The St. Louis Symphony Orchestra (SLSO) announced a soloist change for the February 15th-16th performance on Wednesday.

Internationally-acclaimed and renowned, mezzo-soprano Dolora Zajick will make her debut with SLSO, performing Prokofiev’s Alexander Nevsky with the SLSO and St. Louis Symphony Chorus.

Zajick will be replacing mezzo-soprano Clémentine Margaine, who is unable to travel to St. Louis for the weekend’s performance.

Conducted by SLSO music director designate, Stéphane Denéve, the program will include Denève’s arrangement of Prokofiev’s Cinderella Suite and Prokofiev’s Piano Concerto No. 2 with pianist Yefim Bronfman.

Dolora Zajick (SLSO)
Zajick is noted for her interpretations of Amneris in Aida, Eboli in Don Carlo and Azucena in II Trovatore, as well as Verdian repertoire. Her “extensive” discography includes the recordings of Adia, Trovatore, Don Carlo, La forza del destino, the Verdi ; Rusalka and Dolora Zajick: The Art of the Dramatic Mezzo-Soprano.

In 1993, Zajick was featured in Sony Classical’s recording of Alexander Nevsky with London Symphony. In 2006, she founded the Institute for Young Dramatic Voices, a training program for large or unusual voices designed to help nurture and develop young singers.

Tickets are for the performance are on sale now and can be purchased online at slso.org or by calling the Box Office at 314-534-1700. Audiences can attend the free, pre-concert conversation at 7:00 pm Friday and Saturday in the auditorium. This weekend’s conversations will be hosted by pianist Peter Henderson.

St. Louis Public Radio will be doing a live broadcast of the performance on Saturday, February 16th at 8:00 pm as well as interviews with Denève, Bronfman and Kaiser during intermission. Tune in on air (90.7 FM KMWU) or online.

The 2018/2019 SLSO Classical Season is presented by World Wide Technology and The Steward Family Foundation. The season runs through May 12, 2019.
