A police officer involved shooting earlier this month in Affton has now been labeled as a “suicide by cop”.
On Oct. 1, St. Louis County Police Officers from Affton Southwest Precinct responded to a residence in the 7700 block of Harlan Street for a “call for police”.
Once police officers arrived at the scene, 38-year-old Joshua Lanflisi opened the door and released a dog from the residence as officers stepped back.
According to police, Lanflisi exited the residence and stepped on the porch, holding a handgun in one hand and a sword in another. Police then ordered Lanflisi to drop the weapons but he did not comply resulting in one police officer shooting the subject several times.
Lanflisi died from his injuries late Friday, on Oct. 6.
According to the St. Louis County Police Department, after investigating the residence police found a suicide note written in marker on the suspect’s bathroom mirror.
