Court of Appeals rules Governor did not overstep by withholding funds from public defenders

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – It seems the Missouri Public Defender System is subject to withholds from the Governor, despite being from a different branch. According to the Western District Court of Appeals ruling issued on Tuesday, the Governor’s Office did not violate separation of powers by withholding funds from Public Defender’s office. Armstrong Energy to close its Clayton headquarters, layoff employees

A leading coal producer located in Clayton, Armstrong Energy is closing its headquarters and laying off around eight employees. Armstrong, which filed for bankruptcy last month, notified state economic development officials of the layoffs earlier this month, and a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) was posted on the department of economic development’s website last week.
