Clayton High School closed Monday due to Snapchat threat

Clayton High School will be closed Monday following a shooting threat posted Sunday on Snapchat by a Clayton student, school officials said.

The school district posted a notice on its website early Monday morning announcing the high school, located at 1 Mark Twain Circle, would be closed.

No other schools in the district will be closed, but officials plan to have extra police patrols at each school throughout the day. The school was notified of the post late Sunday night.

“Last night we became aware of a Snapchat post that made a direct threat to Clayton High School,” the statement said. “Out of an abundance of caution, we are closing CHS and the Orange and Blue Rooms, today, Monday, April 9.”

The post also said district officials have been working with Clayton police throughout the night to investigate. No additional details were provided by school officials or police.

“Given the timing and the limited amount of information we have at this point, the best way to ensure the safety of our students and staff is to close the campus. We do feel that this threat was specific to CHS and that there is no reason to close any of our other schools.”
