St. Louis County Executive Steve Stenger is inviting anyone interested to attend an open house regarding the future of the Jamestown Mall site.
The event which will be hosted at Christian Hospital’s Northeast Campus on Monday, Nov. 27, at 4:30 to 7:30 will allow residents and stakeholders to get the latest development news on the project and share their opinions.
“Since I came into office in 2015, returning this property to productive use has been a top priority,” Stenger said in a written statement. “I encourage anyone who is interested in this project to attend the open house and provide input on the future of the former Jamestown Mall site.”
Recently, the St. Louis County Port Authority was contracted to purchase the final two parcels of the derelict mall. With this agreement, the county is now in complete control of the entire mall site.
The final sale will close in December, but the county is taking steps to move closer to redevelopment.
According to the county executive’s office, the site is now being cleared of hazardous waste and other materials before the mall is finally demolished.
“This process began in 2015 when I met with the mall property owners in New York City,” Stenger said. “The open house is a demonstration of continued progress toward our goal: making this property an important contributor once again to North County’s economy.”
