RELEASE: Dr. Bernice A. King to visit St. Charles

COLUMBIA, MO – Missouri REALTORS® is excited to announce the attendance of Dr. Bernice A. King, the youngest child of civil rights leaders Martin Luther King Jr. and Coretta Scott King, in St. Charles, Missouri, on Tuesday, April 24, 2018.

“2018 marks a major milestone as we celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Fair Housing Act, including Fair Housing Month during April,” said Missouri REALTORS® CEO, John Sebree. “As Missouri REALTORS® promote cultural diversity and the ideals of fair housing throughout the year, it is an honor to welcome Dr. Bernice King to Missouri to discuss her father’s nonviolent philosophy that she has also adopted as her own,” continued Sebree.” “We’re also excited to spread her positive message to a new generation.”

The Fair Housing Act, also referred to as the U.S. Fair Housing Law, Title VIII of the Civil Rights Act, was implemented into legislation on April 11, 1968. It has since allowed equal housing opportunity to all individuals no matter their race, color, religion, sex, handicap, familial status, sexual orientation, gender identity, or national origin. More importantly, it has allowed all Missourian’s, and American’s, the opportunity to realize the American Dream of home ownership.

Additionally, Governor Greitens recently signed a proclamation proclaiming April 2018 as Fair Housing Month in the State of Missouri.

This special event will take place prior to the Missouri REALTORS® April Business Conference at the Discovery Ballroom in the Ameristar Casino Hotel, St. Charles, from 10:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. This event is open to the public and free of admission. There is no registration necessary for this event.
