STL County Council to vote on additional funding for program that stocks summer schools

Legislation that would authorize St. Louis County Executive Steve Stenger to accept a grant of up to $2,000 in additional funding for the support of a program that helps keep St. Louis County day camps, childcare and summer schools fed is up for final passage on Tuesday.

The legislation which is sponsored by Councilman Sam Page seeks to support the county’s Summer Food Service Program which provides nutritious meals to children age 18 and under during the summer months when school lunch and breakfast programs are not operating.

The meals are aimed at delivering free service to qualifying program sites such as day camps, childcare, summer schools, and other non-profit programs that serve children.

According to the county’s website, the program is funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and administered by the Missouri Department of Health & Senior Services.

The funding for the program would come from the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services.
