A fashion show with a twist: SLSO and Saint Louis Fashion Fund combine art forms

Two to Tango: the Art of Music & Fashion to feature the creations of international fashion house Jitrois and St. Louis designer Michael Drummond in collaboration with SLSO musicians.

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – On Friday, Nov. 16th, the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra and Saint Louis Fashion Fund will host a unique artistic mashup: Two to Tango: the Art of Music & Fashion.

“Combining these two art forms created such a unique and beautiful experience that we wanted to do it again,” Miran Halen, Two to Tango co-chair and wife of SLSO Concertmaster David Halen said, noting the positive response to a 2016 fashion show at Powell Hall that paired designers with Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons.

The evening will pair the stunning couture of internationally renowned design house Jitrois Boutique, New York, and the fashion of St. Louis designer Michael Drummond with the passion of music by Cortango, a Tango, Classical and Jazz Fusion orchestra featuring musicians of the SLSO.

“Partnering with the Saint Louis Fashion Fund was a wonderful way to make this year even more exciting with a special St. Louis connection,” Halen said.

Two to Tango will take place at the new Angad Arts Hotel, located in the heart of St. Louis’s Grand Center Arts District next to Powell Hall, beginning at 7:00 pm. Tickets for this fashionable evening start at $275 per person, with proceeds supporting the community and education initiatives of both the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra and Saint Louis Fashion Fund.

“We are thrilled to collaborate with the Symphony for this special event,” Kathleen Bibbins, Saint Louis Fashion Fund Executive Director said. “Fashion and music have always inspired each other and they are part of the fabric of St. Louis. It’s exciting to bring that connection to life.”

Widely considered one of the world’s finest, the SLSO maintains its commitment to artistic excellence, educational impact, and community connections – all in service to its mission of enriching lives through the power of music.

In addition to its regular concert performances at Powell Hall, which has been the permanent home of the SLSO for 50 years, the orchestra is an integral part of the diverse and vibrant St. Louis community, presenting free education programs and performances throughout the region each year. It presents St. Louis Symphony: Live at the Pulitzer, a four-program series at the Pulitzer Arts Foundation. The SLSO also serves as the resident orchestra for Opera Theatre Saint Louis, with this season marking the 42nd year of their partnership.

The Grammy Award-winning SLSO’s impact beyond the St. Louis region is realized through weekly Saturday night concert broadcasts on St. Louis Public Radio, acclaimed recordings, and regular touring activity. A sought-after artistic partner by preeminent musicians and composers from across the globe, as well as by local and national organizations, the SLSO enjoys a long history of robust and enduring artistic collaborations that have developed and deepened over the years.

Today, the SLSO builds on the institution’s current momentum on all fronts, including artistic, financial, audience growth, and community impact, and looks toward the future with Stéphane Denève. Denève, who has been a frequent guest conductor with the orchestra since 2003, begins his tenure as Music Director with the 19/20 season, following this season as Music Director Designate.
