Postponed: opening of new section of MetroLink platform at Central West End station

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Metro Transit announced on Thursday that it will be postponing the opening of the newly constructed section of the platform at the Central West End MetroLink Station.

The station has remained open during construction, which began in August.

Due to the postponement, the main walkway between the MetroLink platform and the MetroBus area in the adjacent parking garage will remain closed until further notice. Metro Transit riders will continue to access the MetroBus area from Children’s Plae and access the MetroLink platform from Euclid Avenue.

Metro Transit said that if riders need assistance when traveling between Euclid Avenue and the MetroBus area at Children’s Place and Taylor Avenue, they can still utilize the Metro Shuttles for transportation between the two transit areas.

The new 60-foot MetroLink section in the Central West End was scheduled to go into service on Friday, January 25th. Metro Transit reported that during the final inspection a “potential issues” had been identified which required further inspection and resulted in the postponement.

Metro Transit assured that they are working to address the issue and apologized for the inconvenience that the postponement creates for its riders who use the Central West End Station.

Metro Transit also acknowledged its riders patience during the nearly six-month construction period “as Metro builds a better transit system for the region.”
