SLSO, award-winning vocalists, to present Unforgettable – a tribute to Nat King Cole, Natalie Cole

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The St. Louis Symphony Orchestra (SLSO) announced, on Friday, a concert featuring the musical stylings of a father/daughter duo who transformed the landscape of American jazz and pop music from the 1940s to the 2000s.

On Sunday, June 9, 2019, the SLSO and award-winning vocalists Dee Daniels and Denzal Sinclaire will present Unforgettable, a tribute to Nat King Cole and Natalie Cole. The concert begins at 3:00 pm.

Daniels is a celebrated jazz vocalist with a unique sound, steeped in the art of storytelling through song. Performing a mix of standards, blues, gospel, and original compositions, she transcends musical borders when she brings her jazz styling, infused with gospel and blues flavoring, to the stage. Daniels last performed with the SLSO in June 2017 as part of a tribute to Ella Fitzgerald and the Ladies of Swing.

Daniels will be joined on stage by jazz vocalist Sinclaire. A singer of subtle skill with a relaxed and sophisticated approach to songs, Sinclaire’s velvety baritone has an appeal that stretches well beyond the usual confines of the jazz world.

Nat King Cole and his trio – the King Cole Trio – revolutionized jazz in the 1940s, ‘50s, and ‘60s, with such hits as “Embraceable You,” “Mona Lisa,” “Route 66,” and “Unforgettable.” In 1959, he received a Grammy Award for Best Performance By a Top 40 Artist for “Midnight Flyer” and was posthumously awarded the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 1990. His daughter, Natalie Cole, rose to fame in the 1970s with R&B hits including “Inseparable” and “Our Love.” She re-recorded her father’s greatest hits in an album that won seven Grammy Awards in 1992.

Join the SLSO in celebrating the 100th birthday of Nat King Cole, while honoring this incredible father/daughter duo at this one-night-only concert.
