Ameren Corporation (NYSE: AEE) named Bhavani Amirthalingam as senior vice president and chief digital information officer in a newly created role for the region’s largest electric provider, effective Monday.
As senior vice president and chief digital information officer, Amirthalingam will will focus on accelerating Ameren’s customer-centric digital innovation, which powers the quality of life for 2.4 million electric customers and more than 900,000 natural gas customers in a 64,000-square-mile area through its Ameren Missouri and Ameren Illinois rate-regulated utility subsidiaries.
“Bhavani is a proven leader, and we are excited to have her join our Executive Leadership Team,” said Warner Baxter, chairman, president and chief executive officer for Ameren. “She will be instrumental in driving technological innovation that will bring value to the millions of people in Missouri and Illinois who depend on us to power the quality of their lives.”
Amirthalingam has deep experience as a technology leader. She joins St. Louis-based Ameren from Schneider Electric, a Fortune 500 corporation that specializes in global energy management and automation solutions integrating technology, software and services.
During her time with Schneider, Amirthalingam headed the IT department for all of Schneider Electric’s Operations in US, Canada, Mexico and Central America.
She has also served as the chief information officer for World Wide Technology Inc., a technology integrator bringing collaborative and innovative approaches to evaluate, architect and implement solutions in St. Louis.
During her time at World Wide, Amirthalingam built an IT organization of over 300 people to help scale and grow the company from $500M to $6.5B business over 14 years.

For six months in 1999, Amirthalingam was also an eCommerce Senior Consultant with Sony after graduating with a degree from the S.P. Jain Institute of Management & Research.

Ameren Illinois provides electric distribution and transmission service, as well as natural gas distribution service, while Ameren Missouri provides vertically integrated electric service, with generating capacity of nearly 10,300 megawatts, and natural gas distribution service. Ameren Transmission Company of Illinois develops regional electric transmission projects.
