A carjacking suspect was arrested Wednesday afternoon after crashing the stolen vehicle into a building during a police pursuit.
The juvenile suspect suffered minor injuries in the crash. Authorities did not give his age.
At approximately 1:49 p.m., St. Louis County Police officers from the North County Precinct responded to the 11000 Dunklin Drive for a call for a robbery by an armed suspect.
Police said the suspect displayed a large knife and threatened the 47-year old female and robbed her of Volkswagen at knife point about 1:50 p.m. off Dunn Road near Lilac Avenue.
The carjacker then fled the scene in the woman’s car.
Officers in the area later observed a vehicle matching the description of the stolen car in the area of West Florissant Avenue and Chambers Road.
Officers attempted a traffic stop, however, the vehicle failed to yield and a pursuit was initiated.
The pursuit culminated shortly thereafter in a vehicle accident at the intersection of West Florissant Avenue and Jennings Station Road.
The suspect attempted a left hand turn onto northbound Jennings Station Road from the eastbound lanes of West Florissant Avenue, but lost control and struck the building of Roper’s Ribs, located at 6929 West Florissant Road.
The suspect was taken into custody. He suffered minor injuries as a result of the traffic accident.
The brick structure suffered some damage, including a gas leak, but was tended to quickly by local fire departments and the gas company.
The knife used in the robbery was recovered at the scene of the accident. No citizens or officers were injured in the course of the incident.
The investigation remains very active at this time and additional information will be provided as it becomes available.
