The officers walked up to the vehicle and contacted the front passenger during a narcotics-related investigation. Furthering their investigation, one officer removed and handcuffed the subject from the front passenger seat without incident.

As the passenger subject was being handcuffed, a separate subject entered the driver’s door of the vehicle while ignoring officer’s commands. While being dragged by the suspect vehicle, the officer and suspect physically struggled for control of the gun as the vehicle was moving. During the struggle to gain control of the weapon, the suspect’s gun was discharged, striking the suspect one time in the lower extremity.

After the suspect was struck, the struggle for the handgun was over and the officer took control of the weapon. The vehicle then stopped and the suspect was soon after taken into custody.

The Webster Groves Police Department requested the assistance of the St. Louis County Police Department, and now the incident is under investigation by the Bureau of Crimes Against Persons.
