WASHINGTON — The U.S. Senate passed a resolution Thursday introduced by Missouri U.S. Senators Roy Blunt and Claire McCaskill commending the University of Central Missouri women’s basketball team on their NCAA Division II National Tournament title.
“The Central Missouri Jennies took on the undefeated, defending champions with unparalleled drive, securing a breakaway lead that carried them to victory in the NCAA Division II national championship,” said Blunt. “All Missourians should be proud of the outstanding performance delivered by the Jennies. I congratulate them on their win, and wish them the best of luck next season.”
“Winning a national championship is an incredible feat—and the Central Missouri women’s basketball team certainly had a season and tournament run that captivated all of us,” said McCaskill. “I join all Missourians in congratulating the Jennies on their remarkable championship.”
This is the second NCAA Division II women’s basketball national title for the Jennies, who won their first championship in 1984.
Blunt and McCaskill previously introduced legislation honoring the UCM women’s soccer team for their NCAA Division II championship and undefeated season last year.
