On October 28, 2017, the St. Louis County Police Athletic League (PAL) took 30 students from the St. Louis area to Memphis, Tennessee to the National Civil Rights Museum for their final field trip of the year. Students had a chance to take a walk through history and learn about the civil right era and visit the hotel where Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was assassinated on April 4, 1968. For several of the students, it was their first trip outside the St. Louis area.
The trip was part of PAL’s continuing efforts to building relationships between youth and police in the community. This trip was paid for by a grant received from the National PAL Organization. It’s part of their continuing commitment to education.
The St. Louis County Police Athletic League is a non-profit, 501(c)3 that brings volunteer police officers and children together through athletics and activities. The children and their families get to interact with officers in a positive setting with the goal of character-building for the young participants. All programming is free.
